No matter how long we’ve been in this business, it’s always a thrill to see our dinnerware out in the world, whether we’re at a friend’s dinner party or a restaurant we love. It makes us feel at home—and all but guarantees that we’re in for a treat once the food shows up. We’ve been lucky enough to work with many exquisite eateries all over the map, but today, we wanted to shine the spotlight on a local favorite: San Francisco’s very own Mister Jiu’s.
To put it plainly, no culinary tour of the Bay Area is complete without a stop at Mister Jiu’s, which has emerged as the crown jewel of contemporary fine dining in San Francisco’s historic Chinatown. Owner, Executive Chef, and SF native Brandon Jew earned his stripes at such institutions as Quince and Zuni Café before settling on the perfect spot for his own venture: a four-story building at 28 Waverly Place, with culinary roots stretching back to the late 19th century. After years of intense renovations, the space was transformed: an expansive, light-filled dining room, rich hits of green and teak, and repurposed elements (including antique lotus chandeliers and an eighty-year-old mural) from the building’s earliest days. Mister Jiu’s opened in April of 2016, and was awarded its first Michelin star just six months later.

For Brandon, the building’s history (which is absolutely fascinating) was crucial: he sees Mister Jiu’s as an extension of the ongoing (and often unsung) story of Chinese-American cuisine. His menu pays homage to that story with classic dishes inspired by Bay Area ingredients and grounded in Chinese techniques. Chilled beef tendon. Cheong fun. Pan-fried turnip cake. And the crowd-pleasing signature dish: Peking-style roast duck, served whole on a Coupe Serving Platter—just one of the many Heath pieces you’ll see at Mister Jiu’s.

What drew Brandon to our dinnerware? For one thing: the feel of ceramics in the hand—especially meaningful in banquet-style dining, where plates are constantly picked up and passed along. He also cites the varied glaze palette: “It’s really fun to imagine new ways to present a dish, and how a new seasonal glaze might interact with seasonal ingredients.” He even stops by the Sausalito showroom every so often for inspiration! Of course, Brandon’s interest in local history is another factor; he sees Edith as both a symbol of Bay Area culture, and something of a creative forebear: "I get really into my ingredients, just like Edith did with her materials."
I’ve always been inspired by ceramics. A particular piece may even serve as the starting point for a new recipe. Color, texture, and shape—it all comes together to make a dish feel complete.
We’re incredibly proud to be a part of Mister Jiu’s story—and deeply grateful that passionate people like Brandon and his team are around to keep craft alive. We hope you’ll pay a visit next time you’ve got something to celebrate in San Francisco. The food is terrific, the space is stunning, and—if nothing else—it’s always nice to see your favorite dinnerware out on the town.
We collaborated with Mister Jiu’s on a limited dinnerware collection in 2026, and hosted a special event in our San Francisco showroom to celebrate. You can see the full set—including a range of classic Heath shapes in exclusive glazes—next time you visit the restaurant!
