Our first-ever seasonal collection debuted in 2006, giving our customers—and our design team—a chance to explore new avenues of expression in color, form, and technique. Through the years, these biannual events have become integral to the work we do, ensuring that each trip to a showroom promises new, unexpected delights—both from Heath and the makers who inspire us.
In the past, those makers—our Partners in Craft—have lent depth and nuance to each collection, creating goods that complement and build upon the season’s palette. This method of collaborating has always served us well, but now, two decades later, we’re experimenting with something new.
Founded by Xiaoqun Wu and Oliver Hischier in Zurich, Switzerland, Bienvenue Studios is a graphic design studio based in Zurich, Switzerland, known for their signature approach to biophilic design—studying natural phenomena (rocks, flowers, etc.) and translating this research into striking, often otherworldly visual motifs. Their Origins series, which focuses on seeds and the infinite potential they contain, inspired Heath’s new Seeds of Summer collection. Can you spot the connections?
Take one look at Origins and you’ll see how it influenced the colors and textures of this season’s collection. Still, the connection goes deeper than that. Like Heath, Bienvenue Studios’ practice is rooted in observation. For us, that means drawing creative inspiration from the environment and embracing the elemental nature of our materials—the chemistry of our glazes, the texture of our clay body—to create beautiful, useful goods. For them, it’s about experimenting with scale to reframe the small, the mundane, and the unassuming. A single seed can birth an entire ecosystem; when looking at Bienvenue Studios’ prints, that hidden potential becomes palpable.

To discover, perceive and observe nature from close up is an experience from which we can draw all our strength.
The Palette
This season’s palette celebrates the moodier side of summertime across a range of delicate pinks (Rosalba and Grapefruit), sun-faded reds (Desert), and deep purples (Taproot—a reference to the first phase of a seed’s growth). The latter serves as the collection’s foundational color, giving you a bold, robust base upon which to layer the lighter hues. Several pieces feature our classic Fade technique, showcasing two glazes at once in a gentle gradient that evokes a setting sun.
Special Technique: Komorebi
Komorebi is a Japanese word used to describe sunlight filtered through tree leaves. Do you see the resemblance? Inspired by Bienvenue Studios’ prints, the Heath Clay Studio team recreated this dappled light effect by applying heavy base layers of glaze, spraying another layer on top, and then carefully hand-carving into the surface to reveal organic shapes underneath. The process is highly technical and time-intensive, but the Clay Studio took the challenge in stride, imbuing each piece with one-of-a-kind nuance and beauty.

Dinnerware & Accessories
Summer’s dramatic palette shines across a range of charming accessories (vases, candleholders, and the ever-useful lidded container) and classic serveware (Plaza trays, serving bowls, and a Tall Modern Cup), plus Plaza Dessert Bowls and a Studio Mug in two-tone finishes. You’ll find the eye-catching Komorebi technique on a limited run of Heath Clay Studio Tall Vases, Deep Serving Bowls, and 12x12 Plaza Trays.
Partners in Craft
Bienvenue Studios is just one of the incredible makers who brought this summer’s collection to life Tikkiwallah , whose sustainable, handwoven textiles draw upon the longstanding craft traditions of Thailand and Laos, created a collection of linens and bags in a softened rendition of the season’s palette. If you’ve attended Make Good Market in the last couple of years, you’ll be familiar with their work! Guadalajara-based designer Fabien Cappello returns with a new lineup of steel containers and gardening utensils, created with local hojalata artisans. Rafi Ajl—a Berkeley artist who operates under the name The Long Confidence —has once again created an exquisite selection of glassware that marries utility with sculptural beauty. Needless to say, there’s a lot to see this season.
Seed to sapling. Clay to ceramic. Idea to action. This summer is a celebration of potential—the thrill of possibility, whether you’re dreaming up something big, or simply setting the table for dinner. We hope it inspires you.
